A weekend in Cologne; strolling through the city

We spent our second day in Cologne playing total tourists. After moving to Motel One and admiring the view, we headed out in search of something to eat and to do a li’l exploring. Since I was with a group of blogger gals, I wasn’t prepared with the usual 48-page, impossible to complete or enjoy itinerary that I usually have when visiting somewhere new, but it was lovely to wander the streets of the city, soaking up the sunshine…
You can get the details on my go-to Summer in the city outfit here.

We checked out our new, rather trendy, hotel before hitting the pavement in search of refreshment. Grabbing an iced coffee to keep cool, we pottered in and out of stores including DM, Germany’s version of Boots/Superdrug, where we spotted the Essence Blogger Beauty Palettes we had tried and tested the day before. I abso fell in love with the window displays, with vintage just about everything and bicycles with baskets of flowers (tres chic).
One of the things I loved most about Cologne was turning off a busy shopping street to discover incredible architecture in the form of an old church or build. Lissa (from Girl at the Rock Show) and I spent a few hours stumbling across these delights… before somehow finding our way to a wine bar (obviously lost *ahem*). Someone pass the Rosé, I’m having a throwback moment.
We finished the afternoon in awe of the incredible gothic architecture of the cathedral (the detail was unbelievable) before heading back to the hotel to get ready for dinner and drinks, managing to squeeze in a cocktail or two with Lucy Loves beforehand which obviously made us late for our reservation at Lore & Fitch.

Have you been to Cologne before? Do you plan in advance when it comes to city breaks or just take the day as it comes?

Love Lucinda xx

  1. I lived in Cologne/Koeln for 2 years and I loved it. Was one of the best experiences – so nice to see what you did there, as I haven’t been for quite a few years now. I used to live not far from the Dome. Such happy memories. Gorgeous photos! x
