A Weekend in Cologne; exploring the food markets
With my passport in one hand and an overstuffed case in the other, I joined the FABulous Lucy from Lucy Loves for an early morning trip to Manchester airport; final destination: Cologne. Arriving at the hotel with a few hours to spare before the Essence Cosmetics event (the reason we were flown out to Germany and something I can’t wait to tell you about) we dropped our bags in the room, had a nosey around the hotel and headed out to explore…
We stumbled across a food market (just a stones throw from the hotel) with some of the other gals. We wandered from stall to stall, taking the local delicacies for a spin and sampling the rather alcoholic moonshine on offer. On the banks of the River Rhine, there where plenty of people pottering about. I adore being part of the hustle and bustle of a new city, stumbling along with my very limited German (I’m talking yes and no, thank you and auf wiedersehen).
Mixed amongst the food and drink, we found abso beaut wild flower arrangements (so instagram-able) before being tempted by some yummy caramel candies and cheese that was so pretty it gave me a complex.
Intrigued by a food van that claimed Jamie Oliver was a fan, I plumped for the Poutine which wasn’t exactly like the Canadian dish.. it came with BBQ sauce rather than gravy but after an early flight and a few hours strolling around, it was much needed and rather blooming lovely. As we began to head back to the hotel, we each grabbed a Fanta Klassic and said cheers to the start of a fabulous weekend.
