Hello sunshine!
When you look outside your window and it’s blue skies all around, there’s only one thing to do… ROAD TRIP!
I jumped in the car with the other half and we were off. We decided to go and explore York as we’ve never been together and it’s criminally close to Leeds.
By the time we got parked and had a little wander along the river it was lunch time. We found a gorgeous venue called The Star Inn The City which had an outdoor bar and a delicious sounding menu so we sat down to order.
We grabbed drinks, Jamie had a beer and I had a long island. I always judge a place on how well they make their long islands and this was no exception. I was pretty pleased with the drink. The bartender used Mezcal instead of Tequila which has a much smokier flavour. I’m a fan of Tequila to be honest but it was a refreshing change!
We had a lovely view of the river. There were boats floating past all afternoon.

I lusted over the menu while Jamie messed about in my sunglasses… Gorgeous!
I finally decided on the North Sea Lobster Niçoise and waiting impatiently for it to arrive… And when it did? I was blown away!
The lobster tail and claw came with soft boiled quail eggs, olives, skinny french bread toast, sugar snap peas, green beans, relish, caviar and wild garlic aïoli. It tasted sensational, I wanted it to last forever.
By this time I had finished my long island and moved onto a ‘twinkle twinkle’ cocktail which was champagne, elderflower liqueur and lemon i.e very yummy!
The weather was hotting up by mid afternoon which meant ice cream was definitely on the menu. I ordered the white chocolate and raspberry knicker bocker glory and felt like a kid again. It came with crushed ginger biscuits which I have an absolute passion for!
I might share if you ask nicely… but probably not!
After our delicious lunch we took a stroll further down the river until we came across some little red boats…
And when I realised one was called Lucy, I just had to have a go!
I felt pretty cool cruising down the river, enjoying the sunshine.
We got stuck in a spot of traffic on the way…
Jamie admired the view but couldn’t stand being a backseat driver for long!
The crowds of people enjoying a pint in the sunshine, sitting on the bank, gave us a friendly wave.
When we eventually made it back to the dock (after much deliberation about which bridge was which!) we bumped into some adorable furry friends. They posed for a picture but I shot off quick when their mum came to say hello.
